Ariel, a 1979 Cape Dory 36, struts her stuff on a lovely summer day. (Yes, those are ACS headsails; the mainsail is next)
And sometimes both Ariel and Molly, a 1979 Albin 36 trawler, are out together.
Both boats have 315Ah Lion Energy LiFePO house battery banks in slightly different configurations. Ariel's LFP house bank is charged directly by a high-output Balmar alternator, while Molly's LFP house bank is charged by a Victron 30A DC-DC charger powered by the lead-acid start batteries. Both systems work perfectly for their intended application.

Our experience began on San Francisco Bay aboard a Westsail 32 in the 80s and continues on Lake Michigan aboard our beloved Cape Dory 36, Ariel, and our Albin 36 trawler, Molly. We've cruised up a down Lake Michigan and into Huron and Ontario. In 2018, we transited the Trent-Severn Waterway and cruised Georgian Bay and the North Channel as part of a 1000-mile trip from Sodus Bay, NY, to St. Joseph, MI.

We love boating so much our business name was borrowed from our boat Ariel, and we've been Ariel Canvas & Sails, LLC since 2009 and ACS Marine Group, LLC since 2022. In addition to sailmaking and custom canvas work, our résumé includes major systems repair/replacement, including whole-vessel rewiring, lithium battery upgrades with ancillary equipment, deck re-coring and fiberglass work, thru-hull replacement, engine and drive gear maintenance & repair, fuel tank removal & replacement, and just about everything else in between. We are a member of the American Boat and Yacht Council and an ABYC certified Marine Electrical Technician.
